Lajanje na zvezde

A 1998 school comedy directed by Zdravko Šotra, with a screenplay by Milovan Vitezović. Dragan Mićanović and Nataša Šolak play the central young couple.

Behind the fictional Moravski Karlovci of the early 1960s lies a familiar town. Karlovci Grammar School, the Four Lions fountain and nearby Stražilovo belong to the film’s local geography.

Watching the film offers another way to discover Karlovci: through school days, first love and places that stay in the memory.

Karlovci Gymnasium — the school courtyard

A bell-ringer beside the decorated courtyard windows of Karlovci Gymnasium in Lajanje na zvezde.

The bell-ringer stands beside the courtyard facade of Karlovci Gymnasium. Look at the tall windows and the ornamental panels above them: the school enters the story through this small, everyday ritual, rather than a distant view of the whole building.

Karlovci Gymnasium — the staircase

A teacher descending beside the ornamental newel and relief balustrade of Karlovci Gymnasium in Lajanje na zvezde.

As the teacher descends, the camera brings the staircase’s sculpted balustrade into view. The tall newel with its twisting finial and the repeating reliefs along the railing distinguish this school interior. Alongside the courtyard scene, this detail makes the gymnasium part of the pupils’ everyday world.

The gymnasium library as the teachers’ room

The gymnasium library plays the teachers’ room in the film. Glass-fronted bookcases remain visible behind the two teachers: the setting of books and study also becomes a place for informal, comic exchanges. This small interior scene adds the staff’s everyday world to the courtyard and staircase already seen on screen.
